got rid of the leading '7.x' text and it works like a charm!!!
now on to bigger and better stuff

You have to read the comment at the top of the spec file to build for
7.x.

Here it is:
##
# To build for Red Hat 7.x, build with:
# rpmbuild --rebuild --define "rhl8x 0" dulog-*src.rpm
#

IE, the default is to build for 8x/9x, you turn that OFF to build for
7.x

HERE ^^^^

Your line should be
apache_config_file = /etc/httpd/conf/current.httpd.conf

With no 7.x at the front - that was just part of the comment.
I'll change that comment in 1.4.5 to try and make that more clear.

Message I'm starting to feel like a bit of a knucklehead here, all of the docs
i've found say this should be so easy.

I've gotten the current 1.4.4 src.rpm and the 7.x.noarch.rpm. I do a
rebuild on the src.rpm and it always comes up with an 8 at the end, as
if it is for redhat 8. When i try to install, it can't find my http. I
gave up and installed the 7.x version and it installed fine. I ran
'cadmin create -v redhat-7.3' and it seemed to add all of the rpms that
i told it about in the current.conf file. Next it where things go to
crap on me.

I try running 'cadmin create_apache_config' OR 'cadmin
create_certificates' i get the floolowing error:

[root@update tmp]# cadmin create_certificate
Traceback (innermost last):
  File "/usr/sbin/cadmin", line 311, in ?
    main()
  File "/usr/sbin/cadmin", line 148, in main
    logconfig(config.cfg.getItem('log_level'), sys.stdout)
  File "/usr/share/current/logger.py", line 41, in logconfig
    logging_config[item] = int(ref)
ValueError: invalid literal for int(): 2
7.x apache_config_file = /etc/httpd/conf/current.httpd.conf

here is what my /etc/current/current.conf looks like:

[current]
valid_channels = redhat-7.3
log_file =/var/log/httpd/current.log
log_level =2

# You must pick one of the following values:
 7.x apache_config_file = /etc/httpd/conf/current.httpd.conf
# 8.x apache_config_file = /etc/httpd/conf.d/current.conf

access_check_type = user
access_check_arg = apache
server_secret = test
server_id = updater.proficous.com
current_dir = /var/www/html/current

# These are some text messages that the server can return to the clients
# in various API calls.
## The period is there ot provide a "blank line". Sheesh.
welcome_message = "Welcome to Hunter's up2date server."
privacy_statement = "Privacy Statement for Hunter's up2date server:
    This is the internet - privacy is an illusion.
    .
    Please note that only anonymous access is supported anyway - so
while you
    have to get a valid system id (by going through the rhn_register
program)
    there is no requirement to fill those fields out with real data. :)
All
    that is required is that your architecture an os_release be
accurately
    reported - and rhn_register fills that in automatically. "

############################################################################
[redhat-7.3]
name = Red Hat Linux 7.3
parent_channel =
arch = i386
os_release = 7.3
description = Red Hat Linux 7.3
srpm_check = 0

rpm_dirs = /var/www/html/current/7.3/RedHat/RPMS
src_dirs =

#############################################################################
# Note: since they are NOT included in valid_channels above, these
channels
# won't be created or used. They are just "live" doc.

# The following is an example of what a sub-channel might look like.
# You leave arch and os_release out of sub-channels, as they must match
# the parent.

## END OF LINE ##

Any help is GREATLY appreciated

Sincerely,

Aaron P. Martinez
