Message Folks,

Current 1.7.3 has been released and can be downloaded from the Current
website and from my FTP repository. Its been a while and there's been
a significant amount of churn. Please keep in mind that this is a
development release and WILL eat family members. Here's some
information about what's new.

* Only the SQLite database backend works with this release!! Don't
even try anything else.
* We now use Python's distutils for distribution rather than
makefiles. Umm, I really haven't tested the RPM but, hey, it built.
* The spec file was reworked to match the Fedora Extras packaging
guidelines although it still needs some fine tuning.
* Current now uses Python's logging module to handle logging.
* I have removed support for what was the Current web interface in
1.7.2. I believe that using kid or TurboGears and writing a separate
web presence that interfaces with Current via either the XMLRPC API or
the top level modules will be significantly better and saner.
* We no longer support anonymous clients. All clients are now logged
in the database with up2date's UUID.
* "Base" channels. Use --base with the 'create_channel' cadmin
command. These channles are automatically subscribed to clients of
matching arch and release. Other channels up2date will not see by
* Other channels may be 'subscribed' and 'unsubscribed' to clients
using the cadmin commands of the same name. You need to specify the
UUID and channel label. Ie:

   python cadmin.py -s http://localhost/XMLRPC unsubscribe -u
ee6a7140-5ea8-4c39-bb4f-5f9b0bf9cf5b -l rawhide

* No support for "sub-channels". I think sub-channels kinda sucks.
The up2date/Current will pool all channels to find dependencies rather
than just a sub-channel and its base channel.
* The 'search' cadmin command will report profile names and the
matching UUID. Profile names should be the same as the host name.
* cadmin no longer uses up2date's XMLRPC functionality if up2date is
not present. You may also use the -s or --server option to avoid
using up2date's config file and XMLRPC library.
* Lots of bugs

I'll be away from my email the week of July 10th, 2006. But feel free
to test and comment or ask questions. I'll get to emails when I come
back. Accepting patches. :-)
