Message Actually, this was a bug with the upstream code for marking which RPMS
were active in a given channel, not with the depsolver routine. I
believe I've just fixed it in head; I was able to up2date --dry-run and
get dependencies solved as they should be. Anyone care to pull HEAD and
test to confirm this fix?

I now tested it on RH 8 and RH 9 as a *server*, both with the same
problem.

Take a look at this mailing list post:
https://listman.redhat.com/pipermail/shrike-list/2003-April/000807.html

We also had on the channel many people reporting unmet deps like
rpm -ivh program.rpm ... unmet deps /var/lib/xyz
but if you did a locate xyz it's right in /var/lib where it says it aint.
--nodeps took care of some of those
[/quote]

So, for all we know, this could actually be a bug in RPM...

Server: full RHL 9 channel.
Client: small system install, without graphical stuff (mostly).

Now "up2date --dry-run evolution" gives:

Fetching package list for channel: rh9...
########################################

Fetching Obsoletes list for channel: rh9...
########################################

Fetching rpm headers...
########################################

Testing package set / solving RPM inter-dependencies...
There was a package dependency problem. The message was:

Unresolvable chain of dependencies:
XFree86 4.3.0-2 requires /usr/X11R6/bin/xauth
XFree86 4.3.0-2 requires /usr/bin/cpp
switchdesk 3.9.8-15 requires /usr/bin/desktop-file-install

So, it seems not to be able to solve *file* dependencies.

One uncertain aspect: everything tested on RHL 9 ;-).

Cheers,

Message Ummm... can you provide an example of breakage? Dependency resolution
worked for me...

Message Hi,

A RPM package implicitly "provides" all the files it includes.
As far as I can see, Current (1.5.4) does not (yet) support this,
resulting in unresolved dependencies. Is this indeed true?

Thanks,
