Things I'd like (in order):

1) RH 8 client + 4.1 API (we'll be running our servers on RH AS as soon as
the RPMs finish building so I'm less bothered about RH8 server support)

2) Client tracking.

We're looking at a supported Linux desktop. This would be necessary for
that, so
this is would be nice for me.

I'd also like the ability to push out updates, but this doesn't need to be
part of current
per-se. If current does client-tracking, I can interogate the DB myself and
write something
to force out updates.

3) subchannels. Well, it'd be nice, but I can fake up everything without
them (burn
that disk space) whereas client tracking would let me do things that I
can't do now.

4) User tracking. Don't really care here. Yeah, it'd be nice, but I'm not
going to miss
it anytime soon.

For me at least 1 is a near-term need and 2 is a "would be very nice to
have soon"
thing. 3 and 4 can wait.

Arthur

I'd like to see sub-channels, for example one of the projects I use
is jpackage, whilst I can just have an additional dir entry for
packages, it's just not a pleasant as it could be.

The other thing related that probably couldn't happen without client
logging of some form - access control to a sub-channel. E.g with
jpackage there are nosrc.rpm (the jdk) which have distribution control.
Should someone want to run a public currrent server maybe for reasons such as
to provide some patches on certain rpms for older RH distros -
http://www.securityfocus.com/columnists/142 then it'd be nice to have
some form of access control on a sub-channel (or even just on specific packages)

I'll see if current copes with nosrc.rpms when I get into work.

Message I'd really like to see subchannels implemented.

Message OK folks... I want to get some input on what your priorities are for
near-term development, so I know what to be working on next. Right now,
I'm at a state in the jwbernin-postgres-branch where I have a working
tested (on my machines, anyway) 8.0 server and client environment. We
can handle the new RPM 4.1 API (at least in this branch we can). We
don't do sub-channels, we don't do multiple compatible channels, we
don't do any client or user tracking. Those are all things on the
"TODO" list, along with (of course) some doc enhancements and such.
What would the folks using Current like to see next? I can possibly
justify adding one of the above features to the 1.5 / 1.6 series; I need
to know what folks want, or if there's a greater demand for something
else taht I've not mentioned. Feel free to send in your pipe dreams,
just be sure to rank everything as far as importance...
