I'll take this patch (I consider *you* the mysql maintainer) but let me
be clear for the mailing list archives.

The postgres backend is the "gold standard" for current. Its going to
use transactions because I think they're needed and they are available.
Any other backends MUST operate the same way as the postgres backend,
but since I won't be maintaining them, I don't care how they achieve
that.

If you think InnoDB is the best/easiest way to do that, great. If the
speed of the MyISAM tables is so much greater than InnoDB that you think
the best way to go is MyISAM plus some weird mysql only locking, then do
that.

Personally, I think InnoDB is the easiest way to go. But I profess to
know as little about mysql as possible.
